These notes explain scope, purpose, and legal basis of processing personal data when you visit this website (ethical-council-of-humanity.org) and the rights you have under the GDPR.

2. Legal bases and purposes

We process personal data only within the framework of the GDPR and the German BDSG. The relevant legal bases are Art. 6(1) lit. b (performance of a contract), lit. c (legal obligation), and lit. f (legitimate interests).

Purposes on this website: secure delivery of content, troubleshooting/IT security, and answering enquiries sent via email.

3. Server log files (legitimate interests)

When you access the site, the hosting provider automatically stores information (server log files): requested URL, date/time, amount of data transferred, referrer URL, browser/version, operating system, IP address (stored in truncated form where possible). Processing is carried out to deliver the site and to ensure stability and security (Art. 6(1) lit. f GDPR). Log data are stored briefly and deleted unless needed for security analysis.

4. Cookies

This website currently uses only technically necessary cookies (if any) to enable basic functions such as session handling. Processing is based on Art. 6(1) lit. f GDPR. No tracking or marketing cookies are used.

5. Contact via email

If you contact us via email we process the data you provide (address, message content, optionally name) to reply and for follow-up questions (Art. 6(1) lit. b or lit. f GDPR). Data are deleted as soon as the enquiry has been handled unless legal retention duties require otherwise.

6. Newsletter (currently inactive)

No newsletter is sent at the moment. If we start a newsletter in the future, we will explain the procedure, legal basis, logging, and opt-out options here (especially double opt-in according to Art. 6(1) lit. a GDPR).

7. Embedded third-party content

No external services (e.g. fonts, maps, videos) are embedded at this time. Should we integrate such services in the future, we will describe provider, data categories, legal basis, and opt-out options before establishing a connection.

8. Processing on our behalf / hosting

This site is hosted by a European provider. If required, a data processing agreement according to Art. 28 GDPR is in place. Processing takes place exclusively within the EU/EEA.

9. Storage duration

We store personal data only as long as necessary for the stated purposes or as long as legal retention periods apply. Afterwards the data are erased or anonymised.

10. Technical and organisational measures

All traffic is encrypted via TLS/HTTPS. We take appropriate measures to protect data against loss, misuse, and unauthorised access.

11. Your rights

  • Rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction (Art. 18),
  • Data portability (Art. 20),
  • Objection to processing based on legitimate interests (Art. 21),
  • Withdrawal of consent with future effect (Art. 7(3)),
  • Right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (Art. 77).

An informal message to the email address above is sufficient to exercise your rights.

12. Transfers to third countries

No data are transferred to countries outside the EU/EEA and none are planned.

13. Minors

This offer is not directed at minors. Persons under 16 should not send personal data without the consent of their guardians.

14. Updates to this notice

We adapt these notes if the legal situation, processing, or services change. Status: 3 September 2025.
